In order to enhance the impact and visibility of the BeRS, on the one hand, and to organise its activities in such a way as to respond in a targeted and effective manner to the growing challenges and needs in the field of respiratory health, on the other, three new councils have been established, modelled on the ERS.

SCIENCE COUNCIL

SCIENTIFIC EXPERTISE

MISSION: to collate and promote recent developments.

Lieven Dupont

UZLeuven

Antoine Froidure

CHU-UCL Saint-Luc

The Science Council was established to coordinate and promote recent advances in the field of respiratory research.

Its role is to ensure that the latest scientific discoveries and therapeutic innovations are properly represented within the medical community, and to ensure that they are disseminated.

This not only helps to keep healthcare professionals informed but also helps to ensure that best practice is more fully integrated into patient care.

It also facilitates collaboration between researchers and clinicians, thereby bridging the gap between basic research and clinical applications. It also plays a role in evaluating and making recommendations on practices based on sound scientific evidence.

EDUCATION COUNCIL

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

MISSION: to meet a fundamental need within the medical profession: continuing professional development.

Julien Guiot

Liège University Hospital

David Ruttens

East Limburg Hospital

Clinical practice and knowledge are constantly evolving, making it essential for healthcare professionals to keep up to date.

This Council is responsible for developing high-quality educational programmes tailored to the needs of BeRS members, such as conferences, online courses and workshops.

The aim is to support the professional development of doctors, researchers and other professionals in the field of respiratory care by providing them with the tools they need to improve patient care and incorporate the latest innovations into their daily practice.

ADVOCACY COUNCIL

SOCIAL COMMITMENT

MISSION: to address the growing importance of societal engagement in public health debates.

Didier Cataldo

Liège University Hospital

Pieter Goeminne

VITAZ

The Council’s mission is to defend the interests of respiratory patients by influencing public policy and regulatory decisions at national and European level.

It raises awareness amongst the public, decision-makers and health authorities about the challenges posed by respiratory diseases and the solutions available to improve their management and prevention.

The aim is to promote research, improve healthcare and reduce health inequalities, particularly in terms of access to care. The Advocacy Council works closely with the Belgian Lung Foundation.
