BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors of the Belgian Respiratory Society (BeRS) comprises passionate and committed respiratory specialists representing the country’s various regions. This diversity ensures a balanced and inclusive perspective on respiratory issues in Belgium.

Drawing on their clinical, academic and scientific expertise, the members of the Board of Directors work together to set the BeRS’s strategic direction.
Their role is not limited to administrative management: they play a vital part in promoting research, continuously improving training in respiratory medicine, and developing guidelines and best clinical practice.
They also ensure that the BeRS remains a dynamic platform for collaboration amongst respiratory healthcare professionals, a scientific reference point at national level and a recognised partner for health authorities.

A senior registrar at Liège University Hospital and an associate professor at the University of Liège, she is president of the BeRS and co-president of the SHARP European Severe Asthma Registry.
Her research focuses on asthma, severe asthma, phenotypes and biomarkers.

Guy Brusselle

UZ Gent

Guy Brusselle obtained his medical degree (M.D.) from Ghent University in 1990. He obtained his PhD in 1997 whilst investigating the functional role of the cytokines interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-5 (IL-5) in allergic asthma. As a respiratory physician with a keen clinical and scientific interest in asthma, severe asthma and COPD, he joined Ghent University Hospital in 2002. He has been a professor of medicine at Ghent University since 2008.

Thérèse Lapperre is an Associate Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Antwerp and Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Antwerp University Hospital (UZA). She has an international background, having trained in the Netherlands (Leiden University) and worked as a pulmonologist and researcher in both Singapore (Singapore General Hospital) and Denmark (Bispebjerg Hospital, Copenhagen).
